Lombard Offers 40 Pairs of Helping Hands to Royal British Legion
Surrey, October 2008 – Lombard, the UK's largest asset finance company, has volunteered 40 members of staff to support the Royal British Legion this week at an organised volunteer day in Surrey.
The 40 members of staff from Lombard's Operations business volunteered to help at Whiteley Village near Walton-on-Thames. Whiteley Village is a self-contained village for the elderly which offers residential care and independent living spanning across a 240-acre site. The Lombard team worked on all kinds of manual projects from preparing the charity shop for a refurbishment to spring cleaning and gardening in communal areas.
At the end of the volunteer day, the Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge Borough visited the village to see what improvements had taken place and to thank all the volunteers and the Royal British Legion.
Nigel Clibbens, Head of Lombard Operations commented:
"We all felt that the Royal British Legion was a worthy cause for us to commit our time to and we are immensely proud of our achievements today.
It's given us a real sense of satisfaction and getting stuck in to all of the different projects has been a complete change to our every day working
lives. It's been lots of fun and very rewarding."
Canon Peter Bruinvels, County Field Officer for Surrey, Royal British Legion, added:
"We are so grateful to Lombard for giving up their time today and for taking part in such a spirited way. I think the volunteers have learnt a
lot from the residents and vice versa. It's been a great day and we're really pleased with the results in the village."
