Manchester, 7th May 2009 – School of Sound Recording (SSR), the famous music college which has helped shape some of Manchester's most iconic bands, has invested a substantial six figure sum in new facilities after securing funding from Lombard, the asset finance arm of The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
The college has created a new 1,500 sq ft Neve recording studio on the fourth floor of their Adrwick site. The studio features the latest in audio visual and acoustic technology including a new Apple Mac training suite. It is scheduled to open both to students and local musicians next month.
Established 25 years ago by current Managing Director John Breakell, SSR has seen some of the city's best known bands use its recording and rehearsal facilities. These include The Smiths, Happy Mondays and Stone Roses.
SSR has developed into one of the country’s leading music education centres. The Ardwick campus is home to over 300 students and offers a range of vocational and academic courses up to degree level including Sound Engineering, Audio Engineering, Music Video Production and Radio Production.
SSR Graduates have gone on to work alongside artists such as Bjork, New Order, Badly Drawn Boy, Amy Winehouse, George Michael amd Girls Aloud as well as for leading film and TV companies.
Wendy Breakell, Director of SSR, said:
"We always looking for to improve the training experience for our students and one way to do this is to
ensure they have access to the latest hardware and technology.
Over the last few years we have made a significant investment in our facilities and this latest purchase
is part of that ongoing strategy."
