[26 July 2011]Downes Crediton's Barry Austin and Tony Cockayne booked a trip to Turkey in the Lombard Challenge, a PGA Pro-Captain Tournament, West Region qualifier at Woodbury Park - but admitted they were left sweating on the final result.
The Devon pair shot a 10 under par round of 62 to top the leaderboard but they ended the day with a double bogey and wondered if they had missed their chance at the Exeter venue.
Even with their slip at the 18th hole though, they still managed to finish two shots ahead of Worcestershire Golf Club's Richard Lewis and Andy Davis, and Gary Milne and Paul Smale from Exeter Golf & Country Club.
Austin and Cockayne's display was enough to earn them a place in the £25,000 final which will be held at Antalya Golf Club's PGA Sultan Course from November 25-26.
PGA professional Austin said: "We went out early and were doing well, but when you end with a double bogey you wonder if it's going be a case of 'if only'.
"Our back nine wasn't so good so I thought that if someone tied with us then they would win on countback.
"We went home and came back later but we'd done enough to win as it turned out. But we knew our score could have been even better.
"Tony and I have been playing a lot of pro-captain events recently and doing well so it was good to win.
"And the venue is fantastic. I've played there before in the PGA National Pro-Am Championship so I know we're going to be well looked after.
"I'm chuffed to get to the final and so is Tony."
