[August 2011] The regional team from one of the UK's largest asset finance provider, Lombard, recently spent a day at Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice taking on the challenge of spring cleaning its sensory gardens.
Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults with progressive life limiting and life threatening illnesses from all over the country.
It costs £2.5m per year to provide all the care services needed for residents of Chestnut Tree House, with only 9% of costs funded by the government. Every donation and volunteer is therefore vitally important for the facility to be fully functional. Nicole Edwards, Relationship Director at Lombard explains, “The Lombard team and I had a great day clearing and gardening in the beautiful grounds of the hospice, including its special sensory garden. The gardens are so important for relaxation and stimulus, with lots of colour, smells and things to see. There are wheelchair friendly pathways and archways linking different parts of it together. It’s a great escape for the children and their family. The hospice has wonderful facilities and it’s a local charity we all feel very strongly about supporting.”
Terrina Barnes, Corporate Fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House, said, ‘Everyone at Chestnut Tree House is extremely grateful to the staff from Lombard for their hard work. Our gardens are so important to us, they not only provide the children and their families with somewhere to play and enjoy the fresh air, and there are also quiet areas for relaxation, contemplation and reflection.”
Volunteers, such as the team from Lombard, help Chestnut Tree House save on costly external contracts, leaving more money to directly support the children and their families who so desperately need its care.
