BURY GRAMMAR SCHOOLS UPGRADES IT FACILITIES SUPPORTED BY LOMBARD

Bury Grammar Schools Upgrades IT Facilities Supported By Lombard

Bury, August 5th 2008 – Bury Grammar Schools has completed a major upgrade of its IT facilities after securing funding from Lombard Technology Services, the asset finance arm of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group ("RBS").

The schools have invested £285k to install a new range of Citrix Servers that will provide network access for staff and pupils wishing to work remotely and will also increase the performance and efficiency of their existing IT facilities.

The provision of excellent IT facilities for its pupils is a key priority for both the boys and girls schools. In 2002 the schools opened a new Learning Resource Centre which has the capability to accommodate a whole class and provides each pupil with a computer of their own to work from.

Bury Grammar Schools have a long and distinguished history. The boys' school dates back to the 16th century and the girls' school was founded in 1884. Both schools joined together to form one governing body in 1906. At present around 1,800 pupils are educated at the schools and they range in age from 3+ (or pre-school) through to sixth formers.

David Harrison, Bursar of Bury Grammar Schools, said:
"IT and computer related courses are very popular with pupils from both schools and form a key part of our teaching curriculum. It's essential that our IT facilities are kept up to date to ensure both staff and pupils can fully benefit from these resources."

Nick Harding: Relationship Manager from Lombard Technology Services, said:
"The new servers will enhance the range of IT related capabilities the schools can offer. In particular they will make the schools' network accessible for those staff and pupils that wish to work remotely."
